24th Braunschweig International Film Festival
November 09-15, 2010
Founded in 1986 as a non-profit organization, the audience orientated Braunschweig International Film Festival presents its 23,000 visitors about 170 full-length and short films annually. The emphasis lies on contemporary European productions. First screenings, international highlights, retrospectives, and portraits will give the audience and the press ample scope for new discoveries on five screens.
European Competition - Der Heinrich
Young, European, and of a high standard: these are the qualities rewarded by the Heinrich Prize, the audience prize which was first awarded in 1999. This award of € 10,000, kindly donated by the Volkswagen Bank, is for first and second works of young European directors. The money is equally divided between the director and the distributor or producer to support distribution in Germany.
The regulations and the entry form can be found here.
The European Actors Award – "The Europa"
With the European Actors Award "The Europa" Braunschweig International film festival honors an actress or actor who has excelled because of his or her outstanding artistic performances and contribution to European film culture since 2007. Prerequisite for the award is a substantial and extraordinary film career.
In addition to the prizemoney of 10.000 Euros donated by the filmfest's main sponsor Volkswagen Financial Services AG, a bronze statue called EUROPA, will be awarded.
Music and Film
The Braunschweig International Film Festival is the only German film festival which draws attention every year to the close relationship between film and music, thus devoting itself to a long neglected aspect of cinema history and culture. Portraits of film composers, a music master class and silent films with musical accompaniment with new compositions will be presented. Music and Film is a series combining pleasure both for eye and ear which is sure to please both film and music fans. In 2006, internationally acclaimed composer Carl Davis will be the festival’s guest of honour.
The Short Film Music Prize - Der Leo
Since 2003 the Leo is being awarded for the best combination of image and sound in a short film. Based on a jury decision, the prize of € 2,000 will be rewarded equally to the director and the composer.
The regulations can be found here.
