Regulations 'THE HEINRICH'

Competition for European Debut and Second films

The Prize

The Braunschweig International Film Festival is the organizer of an audience award. A purse of € 10,000 and a statuette of "The Heinrich" are awarded as a result of audience votes. The prize is equally divided between the director and the German distributor (or production company on the condition that the winning film at the time of the award has not been distributed in Germany and that the German distribution rights will not be sold in the foreseeable future).

The "Heinrich" statuette goes to the director. The distribution prize is bound to distribution measures on the German market.

Participation And Submissions

First and second films which have been produced in Europe and which were made as cinema films after January, 1st 2010 may be submitted. The director must live and work in Europe. The film must not have been released commercially in cinema or television in Germany. The films must be at least 70 minutes long and 35 mm format. The organizer decides in the case of exceptions. No limit is set on genre or content.

For the preview the completely filled in entry form as well as VHS video cassettes or DVDs with German or English subtitles must be submitted. The entry deadline is August, 1st 2011.

Film Selection

The organizer will form a selection committee, which will nominate 10 films for the competition. Premiere films will be first choice. The results will be announced by 15th October 2011.

Presentation and Presence of Film Team

Films not in the German language must have German or English subtitles. The organizer can, at his own expense, have German video subtitles made for the competition films. The copy of the film to be shown must be in Braunschweig by 23rd October 2011 and will remain in Braunschweig until the end of the Film Festival (13th November 2011).

All films taking part in the "Heinrich" competition will be shown twice between 8th and 15th of November. In each case every competition film should be introduced by at least one member of the film team (director, producer, actor). If possible the presence of the guests is expected at the award ceremony on Sunday, November 13th. Travel and hotel costs will be assumed in the usual manner by the organizer (all bookings will be effectuated by the organizer).

The contributor will provide the organizer with sufficient PR material (pictures, posters, press kits etc.).

The Winner

The winner is determined by audience ballots. These will be distributed at the entrance to the cinema by the organizer and afterwards collected. The audience judges the films on a rating from "0" (the lowest) to "4" (the highest).

After each screening the organizer adds up the number of points per film and divides the result by the number of ballots handed in. The thus determined average number of points is decisive for establishing each entry's ranking. The winner of the "Heinrich" is the film with highest number of average points.

Expenses, Waiver of Film Rental

The cost of transporting viewing material, advertizing and press material as well as the film to be shown is assumed by the contributor. The cost of returning said material is assumed by the organizer.

Rental costs will not be paid for any selected competition film. The organizer, however, assumes expenses ensuing from organization of the competition, invitations, travelling and lodging of guests.
