Regulations "The LEO"

Short film music prize

The Prize

The Braunschweig International Film Festival is the organizer of "The Leo", a short-film music award. A prize of € 2000 and a statuette are awarded by jury decision for the most successful combination of image and music or sound in a short film. The prize money is divided equally between the director and the composer or sound designer while the statuette is awarded to the composer or sound designer.

Participation And Submission

Short films which have premiered after 1st July 2010 may be submitted. All short films with a 35 mm format and videos (Beta SP, DV, mini-DV) with a maximum length of 15 minutes will be taken into consideration. The organizer decides in the case of exceptions. No limitations are set on land of origin, genre or content.

The competition is open to all. For the preview DVDs as well as completely filled out entry forms must be submitted for an initial viewing. The organizer places great importance on the "Statement about the Relationship of Sound and Image in the Submitted Film". The deadline for viewing material is August, 1st 2011.

You can also enter your film online via Reelport.

Selection

The organizer will form a selection committee which will nominate the submissions. At least 14 films will participate in the competition; at the most, as many films as are required so that a total length of showing time does not exceed 270 minutes. All contributors will be informed of the results by 15th October 2011.

Presentation

The participating films will be shown during the 25th Braunschweig International Film Festival in at most three programme blocks of 90 minutes duration. A repetition of the programmes is possible. Films not in the German language should have German or English subtitles. The copy of the film to be shown must be in Braunschweig by 23rd October 2011 and will remain in Braunschweig until the end of the Film Festival (13th November 2011).

The contributor will provide the organizer with sufficient PR material (pictures, posters, press material etc.).

The Winning Film

The organizer will form a jury of three or more experts (directors, film journalists, film music composers), which will select from the competitors the film excelling in the most successful combination of image and music or sound. The prize will go to the most convincing and intelligent use of music or sound in relation to the image.

The presence of the prize winner at the actual awarding ceremony is expected. Travel and hotel costs will be assumed in the usual manner by the organizer (all bookings will be effectuated by the organizer).
