”BABY BUMP is the portrait of a child, imprisoned in adolescence,” says the director about his debut film, in which the 11 year old Mikey struggles with the hormonal surges of puberty, unpleasant erections and an overprotective mother. Without friends or a person he can relate to, he escapes into an imaginary world, which threatens to take over his life. This transition from childhood to adulthood is captured in dreamlike, aesthetic images. Through expressive colour symbolism, separate comic sequences and the use of split screens, BABY BUMP marks puberty as a collaged period of life, that cannot be attributed to a homogenous focal point.
