To think of Germany without football is impossible. But still it needed the fantasy and the determination of the teacher Konrad Koch to arouse enthusiasm for the game. Koch (Daniel Brühl) is supposed to teach English at a venerable high school in the year 1874. To enthuse his pupils for the foreign language, he resorts to unusual means and teaches them a strange sport that he got to know in Great Britain: Football. However, his unconventional way of teaching soon makes enemies: his colleagues, who count on Prussian drill and obedience as well as influential parents and dignitaries of the city. They want to get rid of Koch at all costs.
