The film portrays the well-known artist Gerd Winner and follows his tracks in Braunschweig, Berlin, London, Munich, Paris and New York. After the destruction of his home city Braunschweig in October 1944, the phenomenon city became a theme which occupied Winner all his life. The film begins with a look at the models for the urban structures in the Braunschweig region. It follows the artist to Berlin, his place of study, to London in the Docklands and to Paris to his artistic beginnings. He taught painting and graphic arts for 30 years at the Art Academy in Munich. Today Gerd Winner lives in Braunschweig and Liebenburg.
