Norbert Pfaffenbichler Retrospective

Cooperation with the HBK - Braunschweig University of Arts / Film Course Prof. Michael Brynntrup.
Norbert Pfaffenbichler belongs to the most astounding and unpredictable artist-curator-film makers of the modern day. Three central strands consistently thread through his work, even when working together on projects with other artists: Firstly, the fascination for strictly logical, mathematical structures, whether it`s exhilarating abstract digital animation films like 36 (2002; together with Lotte Schreiber), or a feature film like NOTES ON FILM 02 (2005); moreover, a deep, sometimes slightly dark, unrequited love is brought into play in the film`s story, which can be seen in his Notes on Film Cycle (2002-); and lastly an increasingly rare surrealist element with which he makes a madhouse out of the world (history), as in CONFERENCE NOTES ON FILM 05 (2011), as well as [OEDIPUS MONUMENT TEST 01] (2008), a “rehearsal” for his so-far failed attempt to create an Oedipus adaptation with an entirely blind cast whose faces, in the spirit of Greek theatre, are so brightly lit that it appears as though they are wearing masks... Film after film, his diverse oeuvre is defined by a passion for popular culture and filled with a sense of the depth of humanity`s abysses while being bright and sensual like no other. Die Vorführungen finden statt im Filmstudio der HBK, Gebäude 05 / Raum 109, Eintritt ist frei. The presentations take place at the film studio oft he HBK, building 05 / room 109, free admission.
