Short Film Music Award "Der Leo"



Winner of the LEO 2008: Composer Nicolas Martin

The 23rd filmfest will be presenting the LEO this year fort he seventh time. The LEO, which is awarded by a jury of four, is a prize for short films where film and music are especially well combined in a particularly convincing and original way. The 20 contributions for the LEO originate from 7 countries are all less than 18 months old and come from all sorts of genres, from animation to experimental films, from short feature films to documentaries. The prize money of 2.000 Euro is donated by the Stiftung Braunschweiger Land and is awarded equally to film director and music composer.

Sven Ahnert



Born in 1964. Author for the radio since 1993. Writes, speaks, and produces features, writes reviews on the topics of film, music, literature, and film music. On the NDR he talks every week about the latest film music CDs. He divides his interests between pop, rock, avantgarde, German popular music, classical and ambient music and learned to appreciate film music which does not really sound like film music, e.g. FRENCH CONNECTION by Don Ellis, or POINT BLANK by Johnny Mandels.


Christine Aufderhaar



Born in 1972. She studied classical piano in Lugano. Then she did double studies in classical composition and the composition of film music at the Berklee College of Music/Boston. She received grants and the Richard Levy Award for her compositions. She worked in Hollywood with composers like A. Clausen (THE SIMPSONS) and J. Chattaway (STAR TREK). 2004 to 2008: lecturer for film music in Potsdam. She is a member of the German Academy for Film.


Andrea Dittgen



Born in 1961, studied German, French and music sciences. PhD in German Language Sciences in 1989, 1986 to 1991 non-commercial work in films, film criticisms since 1986, since 1991 cultural editor of the journal “Die Rheinpfalz“. Regular collaborations with the magazine “film-dienst“, publication on the director of silent films Franz Hofer (1999), collaboration on the yearbook “International Film Guide“, contributions to books and encyclopaedias. Since 2004 member of the board and manager of the Association of German Film Criticism.


Marco Mittelstaedt



Born in Berlin in 1972. 1992-1995 training as a photographer at the Lette-Verein/Berlin. 1996–2003 studies at the German Film and Television Academy/Berlin, section ‘Direction’ and ‘Screenplay’. Since 2004 he works as: freelance director, author, as well as assistant director, stills and media photographer, and advisor on screenplays and location scout.
