Vistas Latinas

"Dioses"

„SOUTH OF THE BORDER a revolution takes place. It is necessary that the world comes to accept it, because it is a reality that will not change.“ (Hugo Chávez refering to Michael Stone’s film during his speech at the UN general assembly on September, 24th 2009).

Against a background of political and social battles in South- and Central America a change of generation in cinematography is taking place, new centers of film production emerge i.e. in Lima, Guadalajara, Cartagena de la India, new film funding is established, Latin-American film festivals draw the attention to new aesthetic discoveries. At the big European festivals Latin-American cinema and its young makers like Mexikan Carlos Reygadas, Enrique Rivero, Peruvian Claudia Llosa or Argentinian Adrián Biniez become very much a talking point.

All of these films exemplify an exciting modern pictorial and formal film language that is characteristic for modern Latin-American cinema. Its stylistic, narrative and documentary diversity is as versatile as the continent itself. VISTAS LATINAS is a purely subjective selection of current Latin-American cinema. All of these films an insight view of their director’s perception of the world and themselves, and their examination of social reality and new esthetic forms of expression.
