Music teacher Paul receives an unexpected letter of invitation from his friend Otto Schiffmann, a talented composer, who has gone to live in a forest cottage after a failed marriage. Paul takes his wife and colleague, Willi, with him but when they get there, there is no trace of Otto but the forest is full of strange sounds.
