In WALCHENSEE FOREVER, Janna Ji Wonders arrestingly captures the story of her family over four generations from the perspective of its female members with her mother’s narration at the center. The family café situated on Lake Walchen, an almost magical place, is the pivot on which the family’s life revolves, starting point as well as point of return. We follow the women to Mexico, San Francisco, and India. The film explores questions about identity, homeland, and self-realization. With the help of extensive material from the family’s personal archive, WALCHENSEE FOREVER draws a fascinating psychogram of German society over the last 100 years.

Director's Biography:J.J. Wonders was born in California and grew up on Lake Walchen in Bavaria. She studied at the HFF in Munich and has shot multiple music videos. In 2016, Wonders received an award for the concept of WALCHENSEE FOREVER, her first feature-length film.
