Opening concert 2023

In the 21st year of their collaboration, the Braunschweig International Film Festival and the Braunschweig State Orchestra invite you to a world premiere at the Volkswagen Halle Braunschweig. For the first time, Laurent Perez Del Mar's music, awarded "Best Original Score for an Animated Film" by the "International Film Music Critics Association", will be heard live to the film. The titular red turtle is huge. It repeatedly prevents a shipwrecked man from leaving a deserted island. Anger grows in the man. But when he overpowers the animal, it transforms into a magical creature....

THE RED SHIELD "tells a multi-layered story about the cycle of life as well as about guilt and forgiveness in beguilingly beautiful images. A touch of Shinto wafts through this contemplative animated film that builds a bridge between Japan and Europe," writes Filmdienst.

The opening concert is presented in cooperation with the Braunschweig State Orchestra and sponsored by the Braunschweig Cultural Heritage Foundation. The film concert will take place on Monday, November 6, 2023, at 7 pm.
