30 Years Film- & Medienbüro Niedersachsen

The retrospective at the Film Festival Braunschweig, showing films by members of the Film & Media Office Lower Saxony, is an exciting cinematic journey through time. The long films start off with a Mokumentary following the anti-nuclear movement in Wendland on a trip to “Rotfront”; (before moving on to) a shocking testament to oppression in Iran and an in-depth examination of our addiction to work. The audience can look forward to discovering, or discovering again, films that have long thought to have been lost. It wasn`t easy to agree on a selection from the many wonderful and award-winning films. It was made more difficult by the fact that the digitization of cinemas means that films on Super 8 and 16 mm can hardly be shown anymore. This is a terrifying reminder of the importance of securing Lower Saxony`s film heritage. This task must be completed otherwise many films will no longer be “alive”. By showing these four long and twelve short films on the cinema screen, alive with vision and inspiritation, we can prove that they still speak to us today. Many of the film-makers will come to Braunschweig for the performances, where they look forward to discussing their work with the festival audiences. All these films could not have been produced without funding.
