A medical student and a steelworker begin a pen friend correspondence just as they are reading the same edition of Leo Tolstoy`s ”Resurrection”. A short time after this two mysterious murders occur. Ten years later the medical student is a well-known and wealthy doctor, the steelworker returns to town with his handicapped partner. Once again a coincidence brings the two together. ”The case itself is uninteresting”, says Li Xiaofeng about his film, ”we are looking for the gap between dream and reality and find the human soul there.” ASH is an atmospherically extremely dense thriller, which perfectly ties together the manifold layers of time and storylines.
