The residual risk is high, the final storage of atomic waste unsettled, and the resulting costs sky-high. Thus, Germany has decided to phase out nuclear energy by the end of 2022.

Arrestingly, ATOMKRAFT FOREVER highlights the enormous effort involved in the dismantling of power plants and compares the developments in Germany with current research on the advancement of the civil use of nuclear energy in France. The documentary leads us to extraordinary, otherwise inaccessible sites, lets us listen to fascinating people, and cinematically interlaces images and words in a way that needs no added commentary.

Director's Biography:Carsten Rau studied political science and history in Hamburg and Berlin. In 2006, after working for the NDR (Northern German Radio), Rau, together with Hauke Wendler, founded the production company Pier 53 for the realisation of documentaries and reportages.
