16-year-old Luca is an internet star. Via social media, her parents market their life together. At all times of the day, at every banal event, the camera is focussed on Luca. Later, the number of views and likes are analysed. What gets more clicks? Is the sponsor satisfied? But Luca is now entering an age in which she seems less cute and childlike. So it’s high time for a younger replacement. Luca has to give up her position and loses the attention to which she is accustomed. While interests and trends on the internet are constantly changing at breakneck speed, Wolfsburg-born Joscha Bongard’s feature-film directorial debut BABYSTAR provides a contrast with its calm, patient narrative style.

Director's Biography:Joscha Bongard, born 1994 in Wolfsburg, initially trained as an electronics technician before beginning work for a YouTube marketer and as a production assistant. He studied scenic directing in 2017 and received a scholarship for the UCLA Extension Masterclass in Los Angeles in 2022.
