Glastonbury Festival 1995. The Stone Roses cancel their performance as headliners. Suddenly Pulp is on the stage and plays himself to the top of Britpop. With ”Common People” they prodcue the hymn of the age and singer Jarvis Cocker becomes a pop ikon. In exclusive interviews with band members and rare archive recordings the history of Pulp is put into a larger context: a unique music scene grows out of the defensive battle of the steel city of Sheffield against the Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher, and which brings new sounds into the mainstream. The Mojo Magazine enthuses: “Not only is THE BEAT IS THE LAW excellent pop history, it is compelling social history.”
