BEYOND: Faith

BEYOND shows films that venture into new territory. The best film in the series will be awarded the SCHWARZER LÖWE (Black Lion) prize, worth 2,500 euros, donated by Volkswagen Financial Services. BEYOND: FAITH – How can you find the way to faith, when the core of faith has been blocked? A Lutheran task, which just happened to have emerged from the current film production: The films in the series deal with the great meta-narratives in innovative ways that go against the grain – without pathos, concentrating on the subjective fate of the individual. JOAN OF ARC, as a musical with dancing nuns and amateur voices, portrays the opposite of a kitschy saint and religious fundamentalist; LITTLE CRUSADER sees the distress of the father and the loneliness of the child, rather than the heroic and inflated Children’s Crusade – absolutely topical, when we think of the 16 year-old IS supporter, who was arrested in Mossul. A documentary film about exorcism today, a powerfully pictorial St. Anthony allegory, a thriller about the abuse of religion through power play and a wicked deity, who traps people in time warps, complete the experimental concept and new narrative of the series.
