Picture by Deutsches Filminstitut Frankfurt. The reliable Sophie (Sandrine Bonnaire) is housemaid for the wealthy Lelievre family in a mansion in Brittany. One day, she gets to know the postal worker Jeanne (Isabelle Huppert) who can scarcely conceal her contempt for the bourgeoisie and is not very welcome in the Lelievre home. Her distrust of Sophie also increases. When finally a closely guarded secret comes to light, the situation escalates. A psychothriller about intrigues, lies and deceptions by the star director Claude Chabrol, who once again looks into the chasms behind the human facade. In Venice in 1995, the film was awarded the Actors Award for the two awesome main actors.
