Based on a true story. DER LÄUFER is about a young Swiss man who is unable to cope with his bad childhood and the suicide of his beloved brother. During the day, Jonas is a polite and helpful cook who is also running marathons, but at night he turns into a criminal who attacks and hurts young women. It took director Hannes Baumgartner five years to realise his movie and "the ambivalence and inner conflict of this person was such a big challenge for me", he says. "It was fascinating, to take a look behind the surface of this human being".
