Mihrije, Sina and Jasna are best friends in their early 20s and live in the concrete reality of post-socialist, patriarchal Slovenia. As tomboys, they reject the conservative system that surrounds them. They do not want to follow the predetermined life plans of their parents. When they meet the self-confident trans* woman Fantasy, their world begins to teeter. Together they embark upon a journey through the complexities of gender, desire and self-discovery. In her feature-film debut, director Kukla weaves reality and fantasy to create a poetic synthesis of the arts. The colourful, melancholy drama with strong women celebrated its premiere in the Newcomer Competition at the Locarno Film Festival 2025. 

Director's Biography:Kukla, born 1991 in Brežice, is a Slovenian director, musician and producer. She is considered one of the country’s most exciting young voices. FANTASY was screened in Locarno’s “Concorso Cineasti del Presente”, the competition for first- and second-time filmmakers.
