The young novice Anna in Poland of the 60s is about to take her vow. Before that, the orphaned girl is to live together with her aunt Wanda- whom she does not yet know - for some time in the town and thus come into contact with worldly pleasures. The winner of the Oscar for the best foreign language film (2015) is convincing with its atmospheric black and white footage, which opens up a journey into the Polish past and captures precisely the emotions of the figures with its narrow picture frame, ”IDA shows Poland from the viewpoint of the outsider”, says director Paweł Pawlikowski. With his film he wants to counteract the conventional rhetoric of Polish movies.
