Denmark reigned supreme for several years (1909-14) as Europe`s most prosperous film center. In the 90s the Danish film industry blossomed again. And the epitome of this new Danish film wonder is our special guest of honor: Mads Mikkelsen. We present seven Danish and three international productions to spotlight the career of this distinguished actor. Born 22 November 1965, he was originally a dancer. Mikkelsen began his career as an actor in 1996 and rose to fame in Denmark in the first two films of the PUSHER film trilogy. His first international success was CASINO ROYALE in 2006. The same year he also took the lead role in the Danish drama AFTER THE WEDDING, which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Film. The Braunschweig International Film Festival and Volkswagen Financial Services feel deeply honored, that Mads Mikkelsen will accept the European Actors Award “DIE EUROPA”.
