Cem Kaya’s LIEBE, D-MARK UND TOD is both a political and a poetic statement against the common understanding of the history of labour migration from Turkey to Germany. The essayistic documentary film, which chooses music as its subject, recounts the experience of migration in all its dimensions: Starting with the recruitment agreement of 1961, it takes the viewer right up to the present day. The extensive research in archives yielded a rich trove of film material which, in combination with interviews, creates a palimpsest of memories in which different layers of historical experiences become visible. Director's Biography:Cem Kaya, born 1976 in Schweinfurt, completed his studies in the field of communication design at the Merz Akademie in Stuttgart before starting work as a producer, editor and director for advertising films and music videos. He uses extensive “found footage” and archive material of the most diverse nature in his work.
