MEIN VATER, DER GASTARBEITER:Yüksel Yavuz is 15 years old when his father takes him to Germany after a summer on the Kurdish high plains. His father had taken this route for the first time in 1968: from shepherd to welder at a Hamburg shipyard. The physical and emotional distance between life in the workers’ housing estate “Klein-Istanbul” (Little Istanbul) and village life in Turkey has left its mark on the family.Supporting film JORDMANNEN:JORDMANNEN recounts the story of an immigrant from Anatolia who comes to a new country in the hope of a better life.
