Father dead, Mother in far off London - Grandmother`s death has to be hushed up, to avoid having to go to the orphanage- 17 year-old Raya now manages her daily survival alone. The social worker and the postman have to be fobbed off and her younger brother has to do his homework. While studying for an English test she meets the English teacher, who is fascinated by her... The film is a moving portrait of a young woman, stubborn in pursuit of her aspirations and inventive in her desperation.
