“I originally wanted to make a film in Pakistan about police corruption, like Cop Land. Then in 2013, I came across a story of this woman who had defended her home and land from 200 bandits. That`s much better than a Pakistani Cop Land.” explains the British director with Pakistani roots Sarmad Masud to the Guardian. Borrowing from the genre of Neo Western and filled with great images, the exciting thriller tells the story of a family that fights against injustice in a patriarchal society. Although MY PURE LAND was on this year`s British shortlist for the foreign-language film Oscar, it was banned from being screened in Pakistan.
