14-year-old Segundo lives with his parents in a village, high up on the mountains of Peru. Noé is a respected artist and Segundo`s role model. With loving devotion he produces retables, altarpieces for churches and private individuals and teaches his son the trade. However a rift develops in their close relationship, when Segundo stumbles on a secret of his father`s and is confronted with the raw reality of his world. Relentlessly the film looks behind the facade of the seemingly intact village community, in which patriarchal rules are enforced with brutal force. With rich colours the film creates the panorama of a world in which the young artist seeks his place.
