A substance, designed to help the brain repair itself, gives rise to a super-intelligent chimp who leads an ape uprising. The film-dienst calls the reboot “a dense, intelligent genre film”. Doyle employs an African-American chorus and focuses on percussion and “low and deep” orchestra sounds to help progress the plot in the scenes without dialogue. He collaborates closely with the sound department to make the music complement the sound effects, including writing a recurring theme based on their recording of a chimpanzee. Doyle successfully blends standard techniques of modern American blockbuster scores and his very own lyrical sensibilities. THOR and this one lift his career to a new level.
