Since spring 2015, the Brunswick filmmaker Jonas Jarecki and his team have been making films, based on the crime stories by ”Murder on the Oker” author, Dirk Rühmann. With their inclusion again in this year`s programme in the Braunschweig International Film Festival, the volunteer film crew for the 26-year-old Jarecki are well on their way to making a name for themselves in the local film scene. Whether it’s in Berlin, Hamburg or Munich, ”Tatort” plays several times a year, mainly in the large cities of Germany. Up until now, Braunschweig has never had a crime thriller of its own filmed in the Lion City. This is why Jonas Jarecki and his film team have in the meantime filmed four complete episodes of his ”Sanddorn” crime series. Author Dirk Rühmann provides ideas and screenplays for the project, which is financed with private means. The stories about the fictitious Chief Superintendent Uwe Sanddorn and his team are set in the familiar setting of Braunschweig. Whether it’s the Löwenwall, the Burgplatz or the Schloss Arkaden - in addition to the stories, the recognition value of one’s home town also adds to the growing success of the crime series. In addition to a large number of ambitious amateurs, Jarecki repeatedly manages to inspire professional actors for his projects. Also, well known Braunschweig personalities, such as the former provost, Armin Kraft or the owner of the ”Zu den Vier Linden” restaurant, Wolfgang ”Elvis” Haberkamm, play a guest role in individual episodes. This year, the young film crew presents “Naomi”, the fourth episode of the crime series, in which a creepy taxi killer keeps the city in suspense. What’s more, audiences can look forward to the third episode of ”The House on the Wabe.” Again here there is an enormous increase in quality compared to the previous episodes. Especially in the areas of sound and music, the bar has again been raised to another level. ”Sanddorn” thus provides another cultural contribution to the region 38, which is enjoying more and more popularity.
