A top spy spills the beans. Forget about James Bond – that was all “rubbish and unrealistic”, according to Peter Sichel. Born in Mainz in 1922, he left Nazi Germany with his Jewish family in 1938. Their escape ended in the USA, where Sichel immediately volunteered for military service. This marked the beginning of his rapid ascent to the status of “wunderkind” in espionage circles. Berlin, Washington and Hong Kong were his professional locations on behalf of the US secret service. With humour, wisdom and insider knowledge, the 100-year-old Sichel reveals the hidden roots of today’s crises and conflicts, demonstrating that nothing arises without a background. “It is our task to learn from the past and to recognise the connections,” says Sichel.
