Winfried is a textbook “old-68er”: non-conformist, easy-going, casual about taking responsibility. His daughter Ines is the opposite. She works for a consulting company in Bucharest and has been tasked with drawing up a concept for the dismissal of a large number of people. Ines’ life is organised, scheduled, economised – and joyless. Then her father pays her a spontaneous visit and, in the role of life coach Toni Erdmann, sets about giving her life a new twist. Ines can quickly become “Miss Schnuck”. Thanks to Sandra Hüller’s outstanding ability to create a harmonious change of tone between comedy, tragedy and surreal moments, TONI ERDMANN is both a pleasure to watch and, at the same time, thought-provoking.

Director's Biography:Maren Ade, born 1976 in Karlsruhe, is part of the production company Komplizen Film. As a producer, she is responsible for acclaimed films such as A E I O U, CORSAGE and HEDI SCHNEIDER STECKT FEST. She received worldwide nominations and awards for her direction of TONI ERDMANN.
