A collection of eight collectors, the first four of them encountered in Boston, then completed with a few German protagonists. An accidental constellation. Collecting by chance can be full of relish.
OF THINGS looks for mechanisms and motivations of collecting. Next to three lovers of china and ceramics, the director included, there are a professional small gauge film collector, a Raleigh bicycles' fan, a photographer, a pomologist and an elderly care nurse who lives in an apartment that looks like from 1930. It's not so much about the higher quality of a collection, but about the genuine impuls to collect, the sense for materials and manufacturing which unites these human beings, no matter if they deal with an old movie or an old kind of apple. They care about things.
