A Georgian mountain village in the deepest winter: young Dina breaks with age-old village traditions when she falls in love with the ”wrong” man and decides on him. The consequences of her action exceed her powers of imagination. Ushguli, the film location and at the same time the place of birth of the director, lies some 2200 metres above sea-level and is thus the highest situated village community in Europe. Since 1995, it has been a UNESCO cultural heritage site. DEDE won the jury award in the competition ”East of the West” in Karlovy Vary in 2017 and is based on events taken from the life of the director`s grandmother. Her personal connection with the place gives the film high authenticity.
