The great promise of the internet was a huge variety. Today we know that the digital world reproduces the same again and again. Young filmmakers and smaller countries of production are suppressed by global players and kept out of the audience’s awareness. The committee Neues Internationales Kino (New International Cinema/NIK), which consists of eight citizens of Braunschweig with most different occupations and backgrounds, pit themselves against this trend. Our selection of 16 feature films is a radical alternative draft against charts on Amazon. Ten movies are debuts or second movies. Six movies will celebrate their German premiere at this year’s festival, for example Eric Piccoli’s feature film debut PROJECT-M. A proof for the good reputation, our festival hast gained in 29 years: The established Iranian director Abbas Rafei trusted us with the European premiere of his new movie OBLIVION SEASON.
