On October 19 the author, screenwriter, and film director Angelina Maccarone will return to Braunschweig and to the film festival. In 2024, she presented her film KLANDESTIN.
The BIFF Pop Up Space is already drawing crowds with exciting events in the weeks leading up to this year’s festival. One of them is the reading by author Angelina Maccarone. In cooperation with the Braunschweig bookstore “bücherwurm,” , the reading will take place on October 19 at 7 p.m. .
The 61-year-old German film director and screenwriter Angelina Maccarone published her first novel this past August. Her debut novel “If You Don’t Have to Throw Up, You’ll Become an Astronaut” explores themes such as queerness, family histories and traumas, migration, and offers a critical and humorous examination of the film industry. Giuseppina Rigatoni, the novel’s protagonist in her mid-50s, teaches at the film university and is waiting to finally direct a feature film again herself. The sudden death of her father, who had come to Germany as one of the first so-called “guest workers,” forces her to confront her family history.
“We are very pleased to welcome Angelina Maccarone back to BIFF. As early as 2024, she impressed us with her film KLANDESTIN and presented the topic of illegal immigration and the political situation in an incredibly compelling and powerful way. I’m all the more delighted that, with her book *Wer nicht kotzen muss, wird Astronaut*in*, she’s revisiting the theme of our special series from last year,” says Karina Gauerhof, Artistic Director of the Braunschweig International Film Festival.
The reading will take place on October 19 at 7 p.m. at the BIFF Pop Up Space at Ziegenmarkt 7 in Braunschweig . Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on-site at the “bücherwurm” bookstore. Reservations can also be made via email, WhatsApp, or by phone.
