Mario Adorf was awarded the main prize "Die EUROPA" at the 33rd Braunschweig International Film Festival 2019.Wherever he appeared, he was greeted with standing ovations - including here in Braunschweig.

Mario Adorf embodied an impressive range of roles over the decades - from intense character studies to major cinema figures. He always remained at eye level with his characters, never placing himself above them - a quality that made him so special as an actor.

In his acceptance speech, he spoke about the special significance of Europe for him - not just as an origin, but as a living idea in film. Diversity and cooperation in European cinema were particularly close to his heart.
