Picture by Neue Visionen Filmverleih. We experience the catastrophic love affair of two Polish musicians in the course of the 1950s. He, Wiktor (Piano), she, Zula (song), get to know each other when Wiktor hunts for hidden talents in rural postwar Poland with a female colleague. A passionate love affair begins and at the same time the ensemble, which he has founded, celebrates successful performances. When the ensemble is exploited more and more for political goals, Wiktor makes use of a concert in Berlin to flee to the West – and they break up. Only many years later both of them meet again in Paris ... the very present music changes appropriately according to the storyline from pure folk music, to jazz and pop.
