Berlin in April 1945. The Red Army is advancing on the government quarter, the destroyed city is experiencing the final street battles. In a cellar, an indescribable time of suffering begins for many emaciated women. They are raped again and again by Russian soldiers. A journalist, herself a victim, records this time in her diaries. In her need against the daily impending abuses, she looks for a Russian officer as a protector, who in return is allowed to sleep with her. A relationship arises which feels like love but a barier remains that keeps them as enemies. The film is based on the autobiographical book ”Eine Frau in Berlin” (”a Woman in Berlin”) by Marta Hillers.
