After her husband has been murdered Kusum has to try everything to make ends meet for her numerous family members. Trapped in poverty and helplessness she drags herself through bone-grinding jobs and soon finds herself in prostitution while also having to endure a patriarchal society making her a second-class citizen. At the same time as Kusum goes through her life of suffering, the viewing audience experiences a reflexion about the medium itself. The minimal scenery degrades itself to a surreal theatrical stage and opens the view on the western spectacle of the distant victimization of women which overshadows deviating self-positionings of women in far-off and mostly unknown countries.
