Nobody suspects that the reticent Mark Lewis harbours a dark secret. While he tends to hide behind the camera during the day, at night he pursues his lust for murder, armed with a lens. It is, however, not only death itself that excites him – he also wants to film the fear in the eyes of his victims. Considered scandalous in the 60s, the film not only damaged the reputation of its award-winning director Michael Powell, but also that of the former SISSI actor Karlheinz Böhm. Today, PEEPING TOM is regarded as a milestone in psychological thrillers. “In retrospect, an astonishingly modern film about the connection between voyeurism, a longing for death, and sexual neurosis.” (FILMDIENST)
