Michaela struggles up the Swabian Alb to a chapel and then prays. Her pleas appear to have been answered, as back at home, she finds the confirmation of admission to university. She moves away from her strictly religious parents to live in Tübingen. However, Michaela suffers from epilepsy. One day, she believes she is being pursued by demons. Helpless, she turns her piety against herself and places herself in the hands of two priests in her God-fearing homeland. Sandra Hüller plays Michaela as a complicated, emotionally contradictory character who only reveals her secrets step by step. She was honoured with four awards for her performance, including the Silver Bear and the German Film Award
