When author Elisabeth (Maria Schrader) loses her husband in a car accident, she is left alone with her children. She decides to die in the snow desert of Lapland, where she first met her husband. But she finds the dead body of an old woman in the ice. In the personal records of the dead woman, she discovers the story of the unusual love between Ina and Aron (played by Julia Jentsch and Thomas Kretschmann), which however was overshadowed by a dark secret. Irmin Schmidt composed a sad soundtrack for SCHNEELAND, of which underlines the tragic and yet inspiring love story.
