The tough investigative journalist Edith leads a seemingly independent life as a solo mother with her four-year-old son Sigurd and mother Dorte. When information regarding the identity of Sigurd’s sperm donor is suddenly leaked to her, she simulates an interview with him. The meeting reverberates and becomes a multi-layered encounter that reveals to her the fragility of her unusual life situation. SOLOMAMMA recounts real stories of alternative family structures and accompanies the protagonist in her inner turmoil – sensitively and lightly. “It was really important for us to respect the women who make this choice and who inspired the film,” says Janicke Askevold.

Director's Biography:Janicke Askevold, born 1980 in Norway, is a graduate of the Atelier Théâtral de Création Paris. She has directed successful theatre productions, such as EIN SOMMERS DAG. She won the Ecumenical Award in Locarno in 2025 with her second feature film, SOLOMAMMA.
