Mosambique, 1988. The country is suffering from the long-standing civil war between the Marxist government and the rebels supported by South Africa. The irregularly running train between Nampula and neighbouring Malawi is the only chance for many people to obtain valuable goods like sugar and bring them home. The journey begins under the leadership of a nameless, charismatic commandant who unites Marxism with shamanism and soon develops into a journey with many obstacles and dangers, above all for the women who are travelling on the train. Licinio Azevedo`s film combines a war film with a Western: it is extremely exciting and at the same time full of human warmth.
