WOLKEN ÜBER LÜTZERATH is a documentary view into the heart of the protest camp against lignite mining in the village of Lützerath. Director Lukas Reiter lived in the camp from July 2022, filming activists and the Green Party Member of Parliament Kathrin Henneberger – three types of people embodying differing strategies in the fight for the 1.5-degree target. The film is intense, up-close and political in equal measure: With cameras that are simultaneously observing and part of the movement, the film captures the emotionality, conflicts and helplessness of a village that has become the symbolic zone of a divided climate policy – and sheds light on the ambivalence between civil resistance, violence and climate protection.
