Planning for the 36th Braunschweig International Film Festival (BIFF) is already in full swing. Until November 2022, the festival team has planned a number of special events. Festival fans can already look forward to the first format, which will start on March 6, 2022.

Wednesday, 09.03.2022: "The TILDA" Winning Film HIVE.

Braunschweig, 17.02.2022: In cooperation with the Hallenbad Wolfsburg, the Braunschweig International Film Festival (BIFF) initiates a cinematic review of the past festival. From 06 to 10 March, the five winning films from 2021 will be shown at Hallenbad Wolfsburg.

Strong cohesion in the cultural scene: long-standing cooperation

Situations like the current pandemic situation require above all a lot of cohesion: the Braunschweig International Film Festival and the Hallenbad Wolfsburg are setting a good example and strengthening the region's cultural scene with a cooperative event. Florence Houdin, Chairman of the Board of the Film Festival Association, looks back with gratitude on their shared history: "I am delighted to be able to celebrate again this year, and especially under the current circumstances, together with the Hallenbad, with the winning films that our juries and the audience awarded last November."

Anna Deileke from Hallenbad Wolfsburg also appreciates the cooperation: "We are looking forward to the winning films of the festival and to the cooperation with our cinema friends from Braunschweig. As a small art house cinema, we want to offer a varied program and with the winning films of the film festival, we offer first-class cinema. Especially in times of the pandemic, it is important that we make the film a real cinema experience despite reduced seats - this is only possible with presence events and guests."

Festival feeling for the region

From March 06 to 10, one of the five winning films will be shown each evening: Starting with the HEINRICH winner 25 YEARS OF INNOCENCE by director Jan Holoubek, followed by the "Volkswagen Financial Services Award" and German-French Youth Award "KINEMA" winning film THE THIRD WAR by director Giovanni Aloi, THE GIRL WITH THE GOLDEN HANDS, the winning film of the "Heimspiel" series by director Katharina Marie Schubert, HIVE, the winning film of the women's film award "Die TILDA" and NICO, whose protagonist Sara Fazilat received the "Braunschweiger Filmpreis".

Remarkable, however, is the fact that the films shown can be consistently classified in the genre of drama. They are works that prove once again that not only shallow plots entertain the audience. Even in the current ongoing pandemic situation, the selection of films proves how essential it still is to deal with complex and important issues. The symbiosis of this fact and the film experience is solidified by the awards given by the juries of the 35th BIFF. Last year's audience also had an influence on the winning films; for example, they can vote for the winner of the HEINRICH Film Prize every year. Florence Houdin, together with all film enthusiasts and festival fans, is pleased that the event at the Hallenbad Wolfsburg, months before the start of the 36th BIFF in November, brings festival feeling to the region.
