Three Braunschweig crowd favorites at Hallenbad Wolfsburg

WHEN IT MELTS, FRANKY FIVE STAR and the SHORT FILM BREAKFAST come to Wolfsburg from BIFF

In cooperation with Hallenbad - Kultur am Schachtweg, the Braunschweig International Film Festival (BIFF) is bringing three highlights from last year's festival week to Wolfsburg. In addition to the big winner of the main competition, WHEN IT MELTS, the popular SHORT FILM BREAKFAST and the German-Finnish drama FRANKY FIVE STAR with special guest Cino Djavid are on the program.

The Braunschweig International Film Festival (BIFF) and the Hallenbad - Kultur am Schachtweg invite the people of Wolfsburg (and everyone beyond) to catch up on the highlights of the 37th Braunschweig International Film Festival in the coming weeks. It all starts on Thursday, March 28, at 8 pm with the drama WHEN IT MELTS. The directorial debut of Belgian actress Veerle Baetens was the big winner of the 37th BIFF and won both the audience award Der HEINRICH and the jury prize Volkswagen Financial Services Filmpreis for best film in the main competition.

"A young woman embarks on a journey to her childhood village, taking only a pet turtle and a block of ice with her. As she confronts the demons of her past, her scars and suffering become clearer and her decision to finally let the ice melt becomes more understandable," said the jury of the Volkswagen Financial Services Film Award, describing Veerle Baetens' drama and praising the "exquisite visual storytelling and a truly moving film that lingers for days".

A Sunday morning with the Braunschweig International Film Festival

The SHORT FILM BREAKFAST was already very popular during the festival week. 14 selected short films of various genres could be enjoyed on the last day of the festival with a balanced breakfast, while the coffee got the circulation going again after a long festival week. On Sunday, April 7, the BIFF is now bringing the cinematic breakfast to the indoor pool in Wolfsburg and all tickets were sold out after a short time. "We are delighted that the SHORT FILM BREAKFAST has been so well received and that so many people are keen to start their Sunday with the BIFF," explains co-festival director Karina Gauerhof, bringing good news to all those who missed out on tickets: "Once again this year, the SHORT FILM BREAKFAST will take place on the last day of our festival week with a new selection of hand-picked short films."

FRANKY FIVE STAR with special guest Cino Djavid

Another acclaimed film from the Braunschweig International Film Festival, FRANKY FIVE STAR by director Birgit Möller, will be screened at the Hallenbad cinema on Thursday, April 18. The surreal romantic comedy about the search for oneself tells the story of Franky, who lives in an old hotel with Ella, Frank, Lenny and Mrs. Franke. While Franky just wants to get her life under control, her alter egos have their own goals. They want love - or sex at last. When she gets closer and closer to her best friend's new boyfriend, of all people, chaos breaks out in her head hotel.

The evening will be accompanied by actor Cino Djavid, who plays the role of Hasi in the film and has appeared on stage in the Netflix series DOGS OF BERLIN, the ZDF crime series KOLLEGINNEN and at the Staatstheater in Braunschweig until 2023. "The film is quirky, humorous, loving, touching and warm-hearted. It's a fairytale-like romantic comedy that takes the audience on a journey between inside and outside in search of their own self," promises Djavid, looking forward to the evening at the cinema in the indoor pool, where he will be available for questions and discussions afterwards.
