Feature Film 2026
General Information
Every feature film is submitted as a general feature film. The festival's selection committee assigns the films to the film series based on their quality, content, and form, as well as the information provided in the submission. Nominations for competitions are also made by the selection committee. Submitting a film does not guarantee participation in the festival; this is also decided by the selection committee.
General feature film submissions are open to all films with a minimum length of 70 minutes that have not been commercially released in Germany (theatrical release, TV broadcast date, DVD/Blu-ray sales, streaming). There are no restrictions on genre or content.
However, documentary films are only eligible if:
- they are in German OR
- they have a regional connection OR
- they are music documentaries OR
- they relate to ecological topics/sustainability
Premieres (German festival premieres or world premieres) and productions from 2026 will be given preference. Depending on content, language, and country of production, film submissions will be assigned to the respective festival sections and nominated for awards.
Feature films longer than 50 minutes are only eligible if
- the film deals with the topic of sustainability
- there is a regional connection* to the film/film team

*To meet the regional requirement, the film must have at least one of the following characteristics:
- The filmmaker comes from the Braunschweig region.
- The filmmaker is a graduate of one of the region's universities.
- The film was made in the region.
- The film was shot in the Braunschweig region.
- The film refers to the Braunschweig region or historical events, people, or places in the region.
