In the early 20s, Georges Laffont travels – traumatised by the horrors of World War 1 – to West Africa, accompanied by the artist Diofo, who also is a World War survivor. After four years, Georges returns to Paris where his brother Marcel – who after the horrors of the trenches has withdrawn into a world of silence – lives with their mother. Georges fights for a place in a world in which life has gone on without him. Will Georges find consolation with Hélène who is the sign language teacher of his brother? A portrait of France in the early 20s which shows how strongly and sustained the First World War has influenced French society.
